self-care

Everyone I know seems to get busier and busier.

They look at my life and wonder how I can accomplish so much and always have time to play and relax.

There are two important things that I incorporate into my life.

Boundaries and self care.

The boundaries are very helpful in carrying out the things I want to focus on and making sure I don’t spend my time getting caught up in things that don’t serve those focuses whether they be recreational or business.

The self care is extremely important in giving me energy and a reserve of energy and fulfillment in my life so I can handle the rough patches and the exhilarating challenges without stress and frustration.

I have five daily habits that I incorporate into my schedule that allow me to give myself extreme self care and I make them a priority.

  • Walking my two dogs for a long walk first thing every morning and each afternoon
  • Taking 5 to 10 minutes a day just to sit and think about not much in particular but be open to what comes up
  • I spend an hour a day reading either for pleasure or for life long learning
  • I put my full attention on what ever I am doing and do my best at it, this gives me great satisfaction even if the task I am performing is routine or boring
  • I look at the stars for a few minutes every night before I go to bed

What kinds of things can you do for self care this week that you can turn into daily habits that will help you create a reserve of energy and help you stay focused when things get stressful?

I would love to have you share some of your ideas in the comments section.

Self care things I can do just for me:

Possibility- It’s a wonderful and powerful thing especially when wepossibility are willing to play with the possibilities.

To stand in the field of possibility and to look and listen and really “See” the limitless array open to us; you need to flex your possibility muscle, the one that lets you see, hear, feel, and attract all kinds of possibilities.

How do you do that?

You have to start by being aware that your thoughts are not looking at possibility. They are pointing you at the lack of things, the slowness of stuff coming to you, the not quite how you wanted it thoughts…

Because every time you have one of those thoughts you are repelling what you say you want to attract to you.

You have an average of 2-3,000 thoughts a day and chances are very good that if you don’t currently have [click to continue reading…]

martha's-vineyard- beach-girlsmartha’s vineyard musings walking dogs…

I have two Labrador retrievers, Taza who is 8 and Luna who is 6.

They are both technically yellow labs, although their fur is very pale yellow almost white.

Every morning I take a two mile+ walk with “The Girls.” We go to different beaches on Martha’s Vineyard where we live and sometimes we walk in the State Forrest.

This tag, in my blog is about the thoughts, discoveries, ideas, and epiphanies that come to me during those daily walks.

I hope you enjoy them and your virtual visit to Martha’s Vineyard :-)

I wanted to take a picture of the girls, so I could properly introduce you to them. Standing still for the camera was not quite, what they had in mind mid romp this morning. I will not be winning any portraiture awards but you can see a quick shot of them.

Luna is on the left with the pink-collar and Taza is on the right with the purple collar. They are both the same size despite the angle of the picture.

So there you have it, my two inspiration magnets, friends, and walking buddies.

One of the things I hope to accomplish in this lifetime is to be able to go through my days with unconditional love for everyone and everything I encounter.

I have excellent teachers in [click to continue reading…]

bad habits

We all have lots of habits.
Many of them we do, without any conscious recognition that we are doing them or that we do them habitually every day.

Many of these habits we have would be labeled as “bad habits” or ones that no longer serve us in a positive way.

Breaking these “bad habits” is a big focus with people especially at the beginning of a new year or a new decade.

But breaking them is hard right?
That’s what we tell ourselves, that’s what the conversations around the office or coffee shop generally focus on early in the year…

Don’t bother with the time or energy to try and break your “bad habits”!
It’s 2010, [click to continue reading…]
