I had a lovely walk to my library today, the fragrance of lilacs and viburnum carlisii reaching out and kissing my senses as I walked along the pretty little streets fresh with spring green.
I love reading and I was enjoying my walk with the morning sun streaming through the leaves thinking about the books in my hand to return and the enjoyable journey I had been on while immersed in their pages.
I walked over to the new release stacks to browse, I always like to see what catches my eye.
On the top shelf was a delicious looking cupcake, a satiny bed of dark chocolate frosting topped with a sugared pansy with a bright face. Looked good enough to eat. The marketing of the cover shot hit its mark and I selected the book to take home.
Cupcakes are very popular with “big kids” these days.
Many bakeries and upscale pastry shops are featuring them, inspiring the child in all of us to come out and play.
Take a few minutes to sit and enjoy a treat at a sidewalk table or a special finish to a picnic…
Inspiration flows to me in the most unexpected ways.
Flipping through the book glancing at the photos, reading the ingredients of a cupcake that caught my eye or looking at the names in the index.
My creative juices were flowing. For the idea of baking a batch of yummy dark chocolate butter cream cupcakes to be sure. But also ideas for a project I am working on for a client and some marketing materials for my business.
Inspiration is like that… You can’t pin it down, or block it into your schedule. Your spirited inner muse likes to play with different concepts, textures… letting ideas simmer and then bloom.
When you understand this and give yourself time to experience different things that lets your inspiration flow. You are rewarded with creativity and clarity and things flow.
I haven’t made a batch of cupcakes yet, but I sampled several with my minds eye as I leafed through the book and got a great deal accomplished.
When you let your inspiration flow, when you take time in your day to experience new things or to browse your surroundings… You open to the field of possibility and you let the spark of inspiration ignite your thoughts and ideas.
I think there is something to this new love of cupcakes, when I did a search on Amazon there were 27 titles focusing on cupcakes published in the last three years. I picked up Cupcakes: Luscious bakeshop favorites from your home kitchen by Shelly Kaldunski at the library today.
And when I was browsing on Amazon I noticed a new title that is coming out in a few days that looked like it would be a banquet of inspiration.
Cupcakes: Truly delectable creations for every day, for special occasions and for sharing with friends, with 100 ideas shown step-by-step and more than 400 beautiful photographs. by Carol Pastor
What can you do today to open to the field of possibility and let inspiration flow?
Take thirty minutes today- do something you haven’t done in a while, take a walk on a new street, browse the new release section at your library… Soften the focus of your mind so that your inner muse can ignite the spark of inspiration within you.
