Staying healthy is about being balanced and conscious from the inside out.
Making choices every day that attract what is important to you instead of getting caught up on the merry-go-round of life and just trying to hang on.
When you let go of the merry-go-round mentality you let your mind and heart tap back into its deep well of inspiration and you see and feel life in living color again.
Feeling stressed, run down starts with your mindset, then you start talking about it to yourself and others reinforcing that mindset.
Then your body gets into the act, it has heard the story so often of being tired, being stressed… it follows the lead of your thoughts and it feels rundown.
You can release that mindset and get into the habit of telling a different story about how you feel. Simple steps and a shift in perspective will get you feeling… good again.
Here are 7 steps to let go of feeling stressed and reignite your inner muse
1. Stress, learn to recognize it -
Stress is all around us but you can learn to recognize the things that make you more stressed out and manage your reaction to those things. All of the steps already mentioned will go a long way to reducing stress in your life. Being aware of what things make you tense and not letting stress build up will really help.
2. Drink plenty of water -
Water is very important to keeping your body healthy. It helps to control appetite and to flush toxins from the body. Get yourself a small sports bottle and keep cold fresh water in it. Drink several bottles a day. If you carry the bottle throughout the day you will remember to drink all through the day. If you don’t like the taste of your water or have trouble drinking it, try adding a squeeze or two of fresh lime, lemon, or orange juice. You will be impressed with the improvements in how you feel from drinking more water.
3. Keep your body flexible -
The older you get the more important it is to stay flexible. Take a yoga, stretch and tone, or Tai Chi class several times a week. Take 2-4 minute stretching breaks several times a day. Stop what you are doing and stretch. Don’t say you don’t have time. Decide that it is important to you, that it makes you feel better and work more productively and make the time. After a few weeks you will wonder how you got through the day with out your stretch breaks.
4. Make exercise part of your job description -
“I don’t have time to exercise” Is this your refrain? You can’t afford not to exercise. A sedentary life style will catch up with you and you will soon have to spend loads of time dealing with the consequences. Exercise is fun. Find ways to do some exercise or a sport at least 4 times a week. Start off gradually about 20 minutes and work your way up to a longer session. Make a pack with a friend or neighbor and go to class, ride a bike or walk together 4 times a week.
5. Change your outlook -
Think positively. Life is a journey, learn to enjoy the scenery and stop worrying about when you are going to get there. If a problem comes up, don’t gripe about it. Look at it and learn from it. Move through it. Change your perception of what is happening and you will change your experience. Make a conscious choice not to be judgmental. Make a conscious choice to view things from a positive frame of mind.
6. Fresh air -
It is very important to spend at least 20 minutes out doors every day. Park your car a few blocks away from where you are going, or get off a few bus stops early and walk the rest of the way to work. Natural light stimulates the Pineal gland, which seems to regulate weight gain, depression, energy and sleep routines. Don’t take a cigarette break take a fresh air break. Your body will really appreciate it.
7. Take time for yourself -
Take yourself out on a date once a week. Go to the movies, have a sandwich in the park, browse in a bookstore or go to a museum. Do it by yourself and make it a regular weekly event. Put everything else aside for this date and pamper yourself for an hour or two. You can think of them as inspiration outings… let yourself play and explore again. Not with a specific outcome in mind but just to experience something in the moment.
