How much time do you spend on a negative mind rift each day?

positive thinking

Are you addicted to the “what if” game?

It can be played alone or with others. Our thoughts typically start out in a neutral place and we keep “what iffing”… getting more juiced by them, until before we know it we have “what iffed” ourselves into a really high score of negative thinking and worry.

Think back to yesterday – were there times you were playing the game?

What if I am not good at juggling all the things in my life?… What if I get sick I can’t take time off from work?… What if the stock market goes down even more?… What if this financial mess doesn’t straighten out?…

You may not have been thinking those exact “what if’s”… but your mind was probably having a grand time taking one thought and seeing how many others it could connect to the downward spiral.

We play this game because our parents, teachers, figures of authority told us when we were young we had to be “realistic” and think about the dangers of doing something – even if our heart was calling us.

As children we didn’t think of this as a game just something that was being told to us. As adults we have elevated it to a mental X – game but one that does not have any redeeming value or real fun for our spirited child within.

Do you think playing the negative  “what if” game is fun?

Has playing it helped you have more of what you really want in your life?

Look and notice if the negative  “what if’s” you’ve been playing with are showing up in different areas of your life.

What if you reverse the “what if” game and start consciously playing it?

What if when your mind takes you off to play the game you put this new focus when playing – “what if” it all goes right?

Instead of playing the game by stringing thoughts together that go from bad to worse – you jumped in with both feet, immersed yourself whole-heartedly and played by thinking of all the thoughts that connect to “what if” things are getting better and better.

“What if” when I do this… I open up more doors and possibilities for myself?

You will find after a week of playing this new version of the “what if” game that synchronicities and opportunities you’ve “what ifed” are popping up all over the place. Now ask your spirited child within to really help you play full out. You will love the game and what it brings to your life.

I have recently started a blog and I’m, by no means, a prolific writer, but, I just feel this compelling need to blog. After I wrote my post, a few days ago, I felt good and thought to myself that this may be a good thing after all. Then, today I had this thought that maybe if I’m struggling to write, I should probably shut down the blog. That one negative thought just sent me spiraling through all those efforts of mine that were not fruitful, and I wound up being thoroughly depressed with myself. You are right, the subconscious is listening and waiting to act on those thoughts. So, it’s crucial to be careful to not let negative thoughts permeate our mind.

Hi Nithya ,
You can rewire your mind. Your mind is in the habit of spiraling into those thoughts. It starts with one and then you don’t choose a different direction and it adds another and another, each getting more juicy in the Yucky-ness of it all.

Its great that you noticed it. Could be your auto programed mind is worried this whole blogging thing and following the compelling muse may put a real damper in its negative mind riff parties…
Keep blogging and keep choosing to shift the thoughts. :-)
